Overview

Spoon Simple is a clean, ad-free recipe app. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

• Saved recipes & meal plans: guest data may be stored locally in your browser. If you sign in, saved recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists may be stored on our servers so you can access them across devices.
• Usage & analytics: we collect anonymized page views, recipe interactions (views, saves, ratings, list adds), and marketing attribution (UTM parameters) to improve the product. When you sign in, events may be linked to your account. We also use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics when enabled.
• AI assistant tools: if you use the Spoon Simple MCP connector in an AI assistant, we receive the tool inputs you choose to send, such as recipe searches, dietary tags, recipe IDs, and household size. We log tool usage and Instacart link creation or outbound clicks for attribution. Our connector does not require an account or receive your entire assistant conversation. A shopping-link request sends the combined ingredient list to Instacart so you can review products there.
• Chrome extension: when you click the spoon on a recipe page, the extension reads that page to pull the ingredient list into your dinner plan and grocery list. That content is used only to build your plan and shop on Instacart. We do not sell it.
• Account data: if you create an account, we collect your email address and optional profile information to provide saved recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists across devices.

Cookies

Spoon Simple uses first-party cookies for sign-in sessions and anonymous visitor IDs for analytics. We may use Google Analytics (measurement cookies) and Vercel Analytics when enabled. Impact.com may set cookies for affiliate link attribution. We do not use advertising cookies or sell your data to data brokers.

Purposes of Use

We use the data described above to operate Spoon Simple, save your recipes and plans, measure product performance, attribute affiliate grocery referrals, prevent abuse of public APIs, and improve recipe and shopping experiences. We do not use MCP tool inputs to train third-party models or build advertising profiles.

Recipients

Service providers that process data on our behalf include hosting (Vercel), analytics (Google Analytics, Vercel Analytics when enabled), and affiliate attribution (Impact.com). When you choose to shop ingredients, Instacart receives the grocery line items needed to build a shopping list on instacart.com. ChatGPT and other AI assistants you connect are separate controllers with their own privacy terms. We do not sell personal data to advertisers or data brokers.

Data Retention

• Account data: kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of a verified deletion request, except where law requires longer retention.
• Analytics events: typically retained up to 26 months in aggregate form for product measurement.
• MCP tool logs: we store tool name, success or failure, coarse source label, and hashed IP for rate limiting—not full conversation transcripts. These operational records are retained up to 90 days unless needed longer for security or legal compliance.
• Local browser data: remains on your device until you clear site data or uninstall the extension.

Third-Party Services

Spoon Simple is hosted on Vercel. Analytics may be processed by Google Analytics and Vercel. Affiliate links may be tracked by Impact.com. Instacart processes grocery lists and purchases on its own service. Checkout and payment occur only on Instacart, not inside ChatGPT or Spoon Simple. We do not collect payment card numbers or government identifiers through the MCP connector.

Your Rights and Controls

You may clear locally stored data by clearing your browser storage. Signed-in users may request access, correction, or deletion of account data by emailing privacy@spoonsimple.com. You can disconnect the Spoon Simple plugin in ChatGPT at any time to stop sending new tool requests. California and other regional privacy rights requests are handled at the same contact address.
