Treacle Tart
A sweet shortcrust tart filled with golden syrup, breadcrumbs, and lemon — Harry Potter's favorite pudding and a British teatime icon.

Ingredients
Step 1 — Make pastry
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cold butter (diced)
- 2 tbsp icing sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 2–3 tbsp ice water
Step 2 — Filling
- 1 cup golden syrup (Lyle's)
- 1½ cups fresh breadcrumbs
- Zest and juice of 2 lemons
- 1 egg (beaten)
- Whipped cream or clotted cream (to serve)

Make pastry shell
Rub butter into flour and sugar. Add egg yolk and water to form dough. Chill 30 minutes. Line a tart pan, blind bake at 375°F 15 minutes.

Fill and bake
Warm golden syrup slightly. Mix with breadcrumbs, lemon zest, juice, and egg. Pour into pastry case. Bake 30–35 minutes until set and golden.

Serve
Cool slightly. Serve warm with whipped or clotted cream.
